Collaborations with the Australian Association of Gerontology (NSW)
The NSW Hub of the Network is collaborating with the AAG (NSW) on the following two events:
The Ethics of Technology in Ageing: What can it do? What should it do? – the AAG (NSW) in collaboration with the Network, Baptist Community Services and the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care will be presenting the above seminar from 9.00 am – 3.30 pm on 28 August 2008 at the Mary Jane Barker Room, Y Conference Centre, 5-11 Wentworth Avenue Sydney. The seminar will include presentations on the challenges and opportunities arising from the use of technological innovations in the care older people and will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Jennie Brockie (presenter of the Insight program on SBS). Driving Better Longer: Driving Assessment and Rehabilitation for Older Drivers – The Network is also pleased to support another AAG (NSW) Seminar which will feature the AAG Gary Andrews Travelling Fellow Professor William Mann from the University of Florida. The seminar will take place from 1.30 – 4.30pm, 13 November 2008 at the Mitchell Theatre, Sydney Mechanics School of Arts, Level 1, 280 Pitt Street, Sydney. More details will be available shortly.
Victorian seminar series - Preparing for an ageing society
The Ageing Well Network, Ministerial Advisory Council of Senior Victorians, Monash Research for an Ageing Society (MonRAS), Council on the Ageing Victoria, Brotherhood of St Laurence and La Trobe University have collaborated in providing an exciting new series of seminars across 2008 on key issues to do with Preparing for an ageing society. This series will provide topical information and debate on key issues affecting older Victorians. A copy of the seminar program is available here.
Emerging Researchers in Ageing Masterclass - Brisbane 5-6 February 2009
We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2009 Masterclass for Emerging Researchers in Ageing. The Masterclass will be held at the University of Queensland St Lucia Campus on Thursday & Friday 5-6 February 2009. PhD students whose research is in the field of ageing are invited to apply. There will be no attendance fee for successful applicants, and those who live more than 100 kms from the University of Queensland will be provided with bursaries to cover the cost of flights (where applicable). Accommodation will also be provided on campus. Please note - delegates who attended the 2008 Masterclass cannot apply to attend the 2009 Masterclass.
ERA Exchange Programme
We are also pleased to announce that applications are invited for the ERA Exchange Programme for Australian PhD and Professional Doctorate candidates. The Network has made available funding for either one international or two national exchanges in 2008, and for one international and two national exchanges in 2009. An 'exchange' means that a successful applicant will spend three months or longer working at a university other than their own, under the supervision of an academic expert in their field. Productivity and Economic Security Theme
The Productivity and Economic Security (PES) Theme has released an invitation for Network Participants to apply for funding for a Network supported Research Workshop (maximum of $5,000) or a New Collaboration grant (maximum of $20,000). The fundamental purpose of these grants is to make it possible for researchers from different disciplines and different locales to meet in order to generate multidisciplinary, ambitious research proposals relating to the PES Theme area. A copy of the call for proposals along with the guidelines and application templates are provided here along with a list of possible research ideas. Call for research development workshop proposals
Network Participant Members are invited to submit proposals for Network support for workshops bringing together researchers from different disciplines and locales to generate large-scale, multidisciplinary, ambitious research ideas. Funding of up to $5,000 can be requested for each workshop. This amount is intended to cover airfares, accommodation and other costs associated with staging the workshop. A copy of the call for proposals is available here.
The application must be submitted by a Participant Member of the Ageing Well Network who will convene the proposed workshop. Associate Members of the Network and researchers from outside the Network may be invited to be workshop participants. Applicants should use the ‘Workshop Application’ template available here.
Policy Colloquium
The Building Ageing Research Capacity (BARC) “Policy and Practice on Ageing: Informed by Evidence” Colloquium was held on 4 & 5 July 2006 in Canberra. The colloquium was attended by over 120 researchers, policymakers, care providers and representatives of other ageing constituencies For more information, link to the Network Operations/Policy Colloquia section of this site, link here.
AWAP announcements
The outcome of the Ageing Well, Ageing Productively (AWAP) funding round has been announced. A project led by Associate Professor Kaarin Anstey at the Australian National University, was successful in being funded for $2,000,000 over five years. Members of the Network were involved in 4 of the 6 successful projects. Details of the scheme and the successful grants can be found at NHMRC web site, link here.
