New Zealand Call Postgraduate Symposium for Emerging Researchers in Ageing
The New Zealand Postgraduate Symposium for Emerging Researchers in Ageing will take place at the Rutherford House, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, on 5-6 June 2007. The call for papers will close on 6 May so interested Australian emerging researchers should send papers in ASAP by sending an email to Virginia.Wilton@vuw.ac.nz with a WORD doc attachment with a 250 word abstract of what you would like to present for discussion at the symposium. Please head your email with the subject line: PGS Paper:SURNAME. The pattern is likely to be a 20 minute verbal presentation, with 10 minutes for discussion. Registration for the conference will be free, but must be made by 28 May 2007.

Research and Aged & Community Care Collaborations Workshop
The Research and Aged & Community Care Collaborations Workshop, which is being presented by the NSW State hub in collaboration with Aged and Community Services NSW & ACT, will take place from 9:30-12:30am on 6 June 2007 as part of the ACS State conference at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Darling Harbour. Mars & Venus: Does Gender Matter in Ageing? - Special Conference at Newcastle
The “Mars and Venus: Does Gender Matter in Ageing?” Special Conference will be held in Newcastle on 9-10 July 2007. The special conference is being presented by the NSW and Hunter Chapters of the Australian Association of Gerontology, the Research Centre for Gender, Health and Ageing at the University of Newcastle, and the Network’s Healthy Ageing Theme. The conference will feature key researchers from large-scale longitudinal studies exploring the health of men and women as they age (sponsored by the Healthy Ageing Theme). The first day will include invited presentations and proffered papers and the second day will include a range of workshops.

First National Dementia Research Forum
The Dementia Collaborative Research Centres will be offering their first National Dementia Research Forum from 17-18 September 2007. The Forum will be held in Sydney and will be offering a range of dementia-related presentations, debates and workshops for researchers and consumers. Call for research development workshop proposals
Network Participant Members are invited to submit proposals for Network support for workshops bringing together researchers from different disciplines and locales to generate large-scale, multidisciplinary, ambitious research ideas. Funding of up to $5,000 can be requested for each workshop. This amount is intended to cover airfares, accommodation and other costs associated with staging the workshop. The application must be submitted by a Participant Member of the Ageing Well Network who will convene the proposed workshop. Associate Members of the Network and researchers from outside the Network may be invited to be workshop participants. Applicants should use the ‘Workshop Application’ template available here.
Policy Colloquium
The Building Ageing Research Capacity (BARC) “Policy and Practice on Ageing: Informed by Evidence” Colloquium was held on 4 & 5 July 2006 in Canberra. Western Australia State Forum
The second symposium for Western Australia is being planned for October 3 and will focus on the “Independent Living and Social Participation” Research Theme Area. Tasmanian State Symposium
Professor Rob White from the University of Tasmania convened the inaugural Network symposium for Tasmania on 8 September 2006. The forum was attended by over 20 people from research, government and key ageing constituencies and was sponsored by sponsored by the “Population and Health” Theme Area of the University of Tasmania, with further support from the “Community, Place and Change” Theme Area. NSW Older Drivers Seminar
The AAG, in association with MACA, COTA and the Network will be holding the "On the Road in Later Years: Recent Research on Older Drivers” seminar on 30 August in Sydney. A copy of the flyer is available here.
Victorian State Forum
The Victorian Hub hosted a forum titled ‘Enabling Access and Independence - Translating Ageing Research Evidence to Practice and Policy’ on 17 August 2006. The forum was a collaboration with the Victorian Departments of Human Services and Infrastructure, the Department of Victorian Communities, COTA (Victoria) and AAG (Victoria). AWAP announcements
The outcome of the Ageing Well, Ageing Productively (AWAP) funding round has been announced. A project led by Associate Professor Kaarin Anstey at the Australian National University, was successful in being funded for $2,000,000 over five years. Members of the Network were involved in 4 of the 6 successful projects. Details of the scheme and the successful grants can be found at NHMRC web site, link here.

NHMRC's DEMENTIA RESEARCH GRANTS (Round 1) - Call for Expressions of Interest
"....The implementation of the Dementia Research Grants Program is a joint project between the Ageing and Aged Care Division of the Department of Health and Ageing and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The program is part of the Australian Government’s Helping Australians with dementia and their carers- making dementia a National Health Priority initiative.
Expressions of Interest are particularly encouraged from experienced researchers willing to collaborate with other researchers, service providers and practitioners to ensure translation of research outcomes into policy and practice......"

NHMRC's announcement on "Accelerating the Pace of Health and Medical Research"
