Theme Areas
Introduction
The four priority Theme Areas are:
- Productivity and economic security
- Independent living and social participation
- Healthy ageing
- Population research strategies
Each of the four Theme Areas has a Convenor (appointed for five years) and also up to five Co-Convenors who have scholarly expertise, a willingness to share leadership, and who reflect the breadth of interests and disciplines across their areas. The Theme Committees have responsibility for leading and organizing research activities; ensuring a mix of disciplines; encouraging cross-cutting research with other thematic areas; relating to and promoting collaboration with constituency groups; supporting and including emerging researchers; and collaborating with international researchers and networks. They have a major role in stimulating research, taking initiatives to get senior researchers together, developing new projects, pursuing funding, and overall facilitating research collaboration.
