Network Principles

Network programs and activities need to be closely aligned with the aspirations, needs and views of older people themselves.

The activities of the Network need to add value beyond the scope of standard research projects. To achieve this, Network activities need to:

  • be innovative and of a high quality
  • be multidisciplinary
  • involve multiple universities, preferably across several states
  • include early-stage researchers
  • have the potential to impact on policy and/or practice on a national level
  • be of a scale that is beyond the resources of a single researcher or research group.

The Network will simultaneously focus on researchers with varying levels of experience. This will include supporting a small number of high quality, large-scale proposals from collaborating Participant Members; encouraging and facilitating collaborative proposals led by Participant Members with involvement of Associate Members; and providing training and development opportunities for early-stage researchers.

The Network will seek to achieve its objectives by working in collaboration with other programs or organisations pursuing similar objectives, such as the Ageing Research Online, Australian Association of Gerontology and other professional, academic, industry and community organisations.

Activities or projects sponsored by the Network need to be approved by the Management Committee.

If the Network has contributed resources to the development of a grant, this needs to be mentioned in the proposal.
